Gun Smoke

He was home alone watching cable news TV
Saw the catastrophic killing of twenty-three
And violent videos made chasing life a game
Creating stress and an upset mind to blame
He chose a day when the time would be right
Then assaulted those who laughed at his plight
His classmates left for dead in a bullet fest
First responders called to his gun smoke quest

It’s illegal to invite
A gun out of sight
Students always fear
Packing heat is near
TV’s talking aces
Cover school places
And pressure to be first
Can bring a system curse

Detectives looked for all that they could find
Asking teachers about his missing mind
They said he posed questions from A to Z
And was very obsessed with the birds and bees
He marveled early about the race for first
Why they wanted him well-read and so versed
Then applying his skills as a young prodigy
He executed a school grounds gun smoke spree

It’s illegal to invite
A gun out of sight
Students always fear
Packing heat is near
TV’s talking aces
Cover school places
And pressure to be first
Can bring a system curse

It was his stake
In the game’s kitty
Held close to his chest
Hands fidgeting
Claims that he made
While acting the clown
The time to give up
Lay his weapon down

Starved for attention since early childhood
He wanted to impress all that he could
Failing tests and his anger borne inside
His way to cope an attack on their school pride
Civil rights, hot shots, and music’s pain
A brief claim to fame in his Hollywood game
And continual violence that we must view
Are bloodbaths on the daily gun smoke news

It’s illegal to invite
A gun out of sight
Students always fear
Packing heat is near
TV’s talking aces
Cover school places
And pressure to be first
Can bring a system curse
And pressure to be first
Can bring a system curse
