Sketches

“The image of a perfect portrait
painted across the canvas
Is but a perfect piece to those
who see the work as wondrous

Do we then try to paint our lives
for others fine approval
Or is each stroke that we cast
for our own amusement

For some the brush will always flow
in methodical even pathways
While others sketch in disarray
so not to miss an angle

Which is right and which is wrong
when others view our picture
And judge us by the way it looks
according to their perceptions

It seems what matters most of all
is our own impression
Of what it is we mean to draw
while we do our sketching”
